Satanic Sunday – On the Choice of a Human Sacrifice

Happy Halloween week! What better topic to cover during the spookiest week of the year than human sacrifice, as is presented in The Satanic Bible.

The idea of Satanic ritual sacrifice can be largely traced back to the Satanic Panic of the 1980s. I won’t cover it in great detail (Church of Satan’s website has a brief account of it here). But the end result was the concept that devil worshipers had formed a worldwide network to perform ritual child abuse and sacrifice to gain power. It was an extremely destructive myth, causing enormous turmoil (like the case of the West Memphis Three). The origins of this myth have been long debunked, but the perception still remains.

Per The Satanic Bible’s “On the Choice of Human Sacrifice” from the Book of Lucifer, the idea of ritual sacrifice stems from the ‘white’ magician, who considers blood to be a valuable life force to be used in its magical workings. The blood of a freshly slaughtered victim is purported to contain that vital force, and by presenting it to the magician’s gods or demons, the chances of magical success increase.

The “white” magician, wary of the consequences involved in the killing of a human being, naturally utilizes birds, or other “lower” creatures in his ceremonies. It seems these sanctimonious wretches feel no guilt in the taking of a non-human life, as opposed to a human’s.

p. 87, The Satanic Bible

On the contrary, a Satanist believes that they are the highest embodiment of human life, and never needs to kill another creature for its energy.

The supposed intention in using fresh blood in a ritual is to harness a being’s life force (biochemical energy). But this energy is actually produced during the throes of death, it’s not magically contained in a creature’s blood.

“[The] discharge of bio-electrical energy [during death] is the very same phenomenon which occurs during any profound heightening of the emotions, such as: sexual orgasm, blind anger, mortal terror, consuming grief, etc.” (p. 87). LaVey says a true magician is uninhibited enough to create and release that energy from their own body. He goes on further to say that “…these poor conscious-stricken fools…would sooner chop the head off a goat or chicken…than to have the “blasphemous” bravery to masturbate in full view of the Jehovah who they claim to deny!” (p. 88).

A major tenet of Satanism is vital existence. Satanists hold life in extremely high regard; not just our own. A Satanist doesn’t believe in the frivolous destruction of someone’s life any more than a non-Satanist.

This chapter continues on to discusses human sacrifice in relation to the destruction ritual (aka a curse/hex), which I won’t cover since I do not personally use rituals as a tool. But the long and the short of it is that when a destruction ritual is used on another human, it is meant to ‘symbolically’ destroy that person because they have wronged you or a loved one. It’s intended to be symbolic, but not taken lightly. “…be certain you DO NOT care if the intended victim lives or dies, before you throw your curse, and having caused their destruction, revel, rather than feel remorse” (p.118).
